National Environmental Information Center (NEIC) of the Central Environmental Authority is the National Focal Point for the Dissemination of Environmental information in Sri Lanka.

NEIC is a Member of Sri Lanka Scientific and Technical Information Network SLISTINET, Health Library Information Services HELLIS and Agricultural Information Network AGRINET which operate under its umbrella.

National Environmental Information Centre established an information network to satisfy the information needs of external users in regional and district offices. Establishment of mini libraries in “Soba ketha “Nature field centers was the main activity under this. Romassala (Galle District), Bellanwila – Attidiya (Colombo District) and Randenigala (Kegalle District) were the selected Soba Ketha centers for this information network.

These libraries maintain their collection focused on environmental subjects to support the awareness programs conducted by the relevant Nature Field centers.

Main Functions

• Create and develop collections of environmental information sources which would satisfy the information needs of all categories of information users. 

• Coordinate the collection of environmental information and information sources by networking and through cooperative programs.

• To provide library, documentation and information services.

• Establish links with international and regional environmental information systems for the acquisition and dissemination of information and documents relating to the environment.
