Public participation

Details

Public participation is vital in carrying out EIA process and provisions related to such participation indicate in the Part IV C of the National Environment Act. Once received the EIA report for approval, it is a mandatory requirement to open the document for 30 days for public inspection and comments. These reports are required in 3 languages (Sinhala, Tamil & English) for public comments.  During this period the report is available in National Environmental Information Centre of CEA, relevant Divisional Secretariats and other relevant institutions.  Any member of the public may comments to the Project Approving Agency (PAA) within 30 days.  An advertisement published in 3 newspapers in 3 languages indicating where such reports are available.  The e-copy of the EIA report is available in CEA website in all 3 languages during the public commenting period.  All public comments received by the PAA are informed to the Project Proponent to submit satisfactory responses, the matters raised by the public.
