The Central Environmental Authority, in collaboration with Nestlé Lanka Limited, conducted a nationwide poster art competition in parallel with World Environment Day 2025.
The prize-giving ceremony for the national-level winners was held on 25th June 2025 at President's College, Kotte, with the distinguished participation of Hon. Anton Jayakodi, Deputy Minister of Environment; Prof. Thilak Hewawasam, Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority, Mr. Bernhard Stefan, Managing Director of Nestlé Lanka Limited, and Mr. Ruwan Welikala, Director of Corporate Affairs & Communications at Nestlé.
The competition was held under two categories: Grades 8–10 and Grades 11–13.
In the Grades 8–10 category, D. M. A. I. Senarath from Dutugemunu Central College, Kurunegala, A. G. J. Sanjana from Ananda Balika National School, Polonnaruwa, and D. G. S. Harshi Kumari from Nagolla Siddhartha Central College, Matale, secured the 1st, 2nd , and 3rd places, respectively.
n the Grades 11–13 category, W. M. S. Yehani Weerasinghe from Kegalle Balika Vidyalaya, K. Shashini Pabasara from Ananda Balika National College, and K. K S. Tharumila Chandrasekara from Ferguson High School won the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places, respectively.
The main objective of this competition was to raise awareness and enhance knowledge on waste management among the school community to promote a cleaner and safer environment in the future.
The event was also graced by the presence of Principal of President’s College, Mr. Sivakumar; Deputy Director General of the Environment Education & Awareness Division, Mrs. Shyamani Periyapperuma; Acting Deputy Director General of Waste Management; staff members of the Environment Promotion Unit; teachers, parents, and students.
