Launching of commemorative stamp related to the National Environment Pioneer Program and All religious book

Central Environmental Authority has released a stamp for the National Environment Pioneer Program which has been implemented in the school system of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Ministry of Education and also printed an all religious book including the importance of protecting the environment taught in the main religions. The launching ceremony held at the Auditorium of the Central Environment Authority (CEA) in Battaramulla on 20.10.2022 at 11.00 a.m under the patronage of Hon. Minister of Environment – Mr. Naseer Ahmed, Hon. Minister of Transport, Highways and Mass Media- Mr. Bandula Gunawardena and Hon. Minister of State for Media, Mr. Shanta Bandara, Dr. Anil Jasinghe- Secretary of the Ministry of Environment and the Additional Secretaries of the Ministry, Advisor of the Central Environment Authority and Senior Environmental Lawer Dr.Jagath Gunawardena, Chairman of the Central Environment Authority Mr. S. Amarasinghe and other senior management officers also participated in this event.


In addition to this, Post Master General of the Sri Lanka Postal Department including senior officers also participated. Authors who brought out the ideas of environmental protection in the four major religions in written form and school teachers, environmental pioneers, parents and the media persons also took part in the event,
CEA has taken timely step to release such a stamp to strengthen the Environment Pioneer Program and give it official validity, together with the Stamp Bureau of the Sri Lanka Postal Department. The contribution given by Vijaya newspaper in informing the school system including environmental pioneers to create pictures related to this stamp is also unique.

Environmental teachings from Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam and Christianity are included in this interfaith book as a result of the Central Environment Authority's initiative to socialize the great work being done by authors of various religions to convey the need and importance of protecting the environment. The book has been published in both Sinhala and Tamil languages.

Dr. Preethi Kulatunga, Head of National Values Promotion Center, award winning writer who is an expert in Buddhist teachings, Professor Fareena Ruzaik, Department of Geography, University of Colombo and expert writer representing Islam, Rev. Father Dr. Jayalath Balagalla,  lecturer of National Seminary College, Ampitiya, Kandy representing Christianity and Dr. Aaru Thirumurugan, Retired Principal, President of Sivaboomi Trust, Jaffna representing Hinduism, have given their creative contribution to publish this book.
