Central Environmental Authority, which is one of the key institutions operating in Sri Lanka for environmental regulation, has been assigned an enormous responsibility related to the protection of the environment. It is very important that the Central Environmental Authority, which operates under the National Environmental Act No. 47 of 1980 (as amended), overcomes the current environmental challenges and functions sturdily.
In an era where the entire world is paying serious attention to environmental conservation and is focusing on a green economy, we should extend our fullest cooperation to it in every area we operate. To that end, it is the duty and responsibility of all of us to change our attitudes for the better, and be honest with ourselves, and take steps to protect the environment in every work we do.
It is the need of the time to pay attention to the national and international conventions in operation for environmental conservation, to extend thenecessary support for that, and to assist in the formulation of policies leading to a path that can be walked together rather than leading to a path where the environmental protection and development work of the country clash with one another. In this respect, it is also important to get the support that can be obtained from modern technological means in environmental conservation by taking to the use of technical tools such as digitalization.
I expect to provide leadership to the Central Environmental Authority to enable it to function as a self-generating entity and to contribute to strengthening the country's economy by leading the Authority to achieveits objectives and fulfill itsduties and functions at an optimal level.
