World Environment Day 2025

The World Environment Day National Program was held on 5th June 2025 in Kegalle, with the distinguished participation of Hon. Anura Kumara Dissanayake, President of the Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
This year’s celebration was held under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution.”
At the event, the habitat of the Bandula Pethiya was declared a sanctuary, and four new gazette notifications were issued to protect newly designated reserved forests, including Nilgala. Awards were also presented to the Best Green School to mark the occasion.
Parallel to the World Environment Day celebrations, the Central Environmental Authority conducted the Green Railway Station Competition, and the winners were awarded by the Hon. President at the event.
Dr. Dhammika Patabendi, Minister of Environment, Mr. Anton Jayakodi, Deputy Minister of Environment, Mr. K. R. Uduwawala, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment, Prof. Thilak Hewawasam, Chairman of the CEA, Mr. Padmasiri Moonamale, Director General of the CEA and other distinguished guests also participated in the program.
Moreover, an Environmental Exhibition was also organized in line with the World Environment Day in Kegalle.
