World Environment Day 2023

The Mannar District Office of the Central Environmental Authority organized various activities parallel to the National Environment Week to mark the World Environment Day 2023. Considering the theme of this year “Beat Plastic Pollution” the district office conducted several programs such as, tree planting, solid waste management awareness, air pollution reduction, beach cleaning, water resource management awareness, and sustainable land use management awareness from 29th May to 8th June 2023.

On 29th May conducted a tree planting program & solid waste management awareness at Pannivettuvan ,Murnukan, Mannar. On 31st May done an awareness program for staff of Manthai West Predeshiya sabha. On 5th & 6th June conducted a beach clean-up program with students of Open University Sri Lanka at the South Bar Beach, Mannar and Keeri Beach Mannar. On 7th June the district office conducted an awareness program for Cool Man Factory staff members regarding water resource management and tree planting at the factory premises. On 8th June conducted an awareness for general public regarding sustainable land use management practices.

Moreover, the office distributed 100 tree seedlings to Manthai West Predeshiya sabha, Valvuthiyam, Ponthikandal Play Ground. This initiative aims to encourage community members to actively participate in reforestation. The staff members of the Mannar District office actively participated in those programs.
