The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has been mandated by the National Environmental Act (NEA) to regulate and enforce the Environmental Protection and Management in Sri Lanka. Environmental Protection License is the main legal tool which controls & manages the discharge of industrial effluents into the environment according to stipulated standards and criteria. In the process of complying the standards, industrial facilitation is identified as an effective strategy, and the CEA is willing to share information & knowledge on new technologies of industrial wastewater management, operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plants.
Therefore, an awareness programme on “Modern Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technologies, Operation and Maintenance of Wastewater Treatment Plants” was held on 26th of February 2019, in the conference room at the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment.
The programme was organized by the Environmental Pollution Control Unit, CEA in collaboration with the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, University of Peradeniya. Key aspects of the Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technologies was presented by Prof. Ng Jern from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Dr. R.M.S.K Rathnayake, Director (EPC), CEA was conducted the presentation on the current status of industrial wastewater management in Sri Lanka.
