Under the directives of his Excellency the President and Hon. Minister for Mahaweli Development and Environment, the Intelligence unit of the Air Force has launched an air surveillance operations to cover the entire island for protection and management of the environment of Sri Lanka.An initial discussion in this regard was held with the senior management of the CEA and the Air force officials at the CEA on 12.09.2018.
Subsequently, a training program was organized on 14.12.2018 at the auditorium of the CEA with the participation of the officials of the head office and regional offices of the CEA and the officers of the Sri Lanka Air Force to provide the knowledge theoretically and practically on use of air surveillance information for environmental management and its applications.
Delivering the opening remarks, Mr.Chandrarathna Pallegama, the Chairman of the CEA explained that the main objectives of the program were to create a common platform to share resources & databases, create awareness and exchange technologies among the Central Environmental Authority and Sri Lankan Air Force on the application of air surveillance data for environmental monitoring and management effectively.
The lecture on the Effective use of Drone technology for environmental management of Sri Lanka was conducted by Mr. Manju Gunawardhane, Inventor- Senior Research Scientist - CEO at Hybrid Technologies Consultant- Nanotechnology applications, SLINTEC.
Deputy Director of the Intelligence Services of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Commander M. D. J. Wasage, delivered a speech on the Introduction of Air Surveillance program in the field of environment. The applications of air surveillance operations for better management and protection of the environment was done by Squadron Leader Mr. Rukshan Gamlakshage.
Both parties agreed to work cooperatively sharing technologies, data and information each other for better management of the environment of our country.
