To strengthen the Environment Pioneer Program (EPP) in Colombo & Gampaha district schools, the Environment Education Unit of the CEA organized three day residential program for the Zonal Education Coordinating Officers, Divisional Education Directors, EPP District Consultants, EPP Zonal Commissioners and EO/ DEOs from Colombo, Gampaha District from 14th to 16th February 2019 at National Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture Training Institute, Kalawewa. The event was graced by Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma, State Minister of Mahaweli Development & Environment and Deputy Minister of Environment.
Compared to the rest of the districts in the country Colombo and Gampaha district have been showed low participation in pioneer program. To uplift and enhance the pioneer program in those two districts, was the main objective of this workshop. Furthermore, prepared strategic plan to strengthen the program in zonal basis is one of the main goals.
To give theoretical and practical knowledge in this regards, several lectures were presented by Ms. D P P Lankathilake, Assistant Education Director (Agriculture & Environment Education), Kekirawa, Mr. W D Wijesinghe, Former Senior Lecture, National Institute of Education, Maharagama. Also, participants visited the Ritigala forest to obtain the practical approach. Furthermore, officers participated in yoga and meditation session to relax and rejuvenate their mind and body.
