Plastic products have become very important, handy item in the Social Life. But haphazard disposal of those items has created many environmental problems for the past few decades. Improper disposal & open burning of plastic products have created many health & environmental issues. These lead to create economic & social issues too.
Considering the above facts the Central Environmental Authority, which is one of the main government institution works for protection & conservation of the environment, could obtain a cabinet approval for the proper management plastics and to minimize the environmental issues encountered with plastic.
CEA proposed an expert committee to work in this regard in order to get the expert opinions for the implementation of the said cabinet paper and the Waste Management Unit of CEA organized the committee meeting & panel discussion on 18th November at 9.30 am at CEA Board Room. For this expert discussion experts from the Consumer Affairs Authority, Ministry Of Mahaweli Development & Environment, Ministry of Health and other Government institutions, Universities, Industries related to plastic management were participated and contributed to give their comments for the better management of plastics.
Their valuable inputs for the preparation of action plan and a National Policy also given at the panel discussion
