The CEA raided polythene lunch sheet stores in Colombo and Kalalgoda

In response to information received to the CEA, two raids on a polythene lunch sheet store in Colombo 11 and Kalalgoda were conducted with the Police Special Unit and the Consumer Affairs Authority on 19th August 2019 Monday and 21st Wednesday.

a.    Store  in Colombo

 When the raid was conducted the lunch sheets were being dispatched to buyers from the store in Colombo, which is located amongst congested commercial establishments without any name board. The store is owned by a polythene and plastic item seller who operate a shop in People’ Park, Colombo 11. The store consisted of nearly one  ton of polythene lunch sheets which is worth of Rs. two hundred thousand and the same was seized by the CAA.

b.     Store in Kalalgoda

The store in Kalalgoda consisted of nearly half a ton of polythene lunch sheets which was operated by a lady in adjacent to a polythene factory.
All the seized stocks were transported to Dompe Sanitary Landfill Site for disposal with the court’s permission. The seized stock along with the accused will be produced to respective Magistrate’’ Courts of Maligakanda and Kaduwela under the provisions of the National Environmental Act and Consumer Affairs Authority Act.
