FESTIVAL SEASON - 2019 LAKE GREGORY ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AREA

Lake Gregory was declared as an Environmental Protection Area under provisions of the National Environmental Act by the Gazette No. 1487/10 dated 05.03.2007. Since then the Central Environmental Authority has been regulating the activities carried out within the aforesaid area.

Every year during the Festival season, a variety of leisure activities are being implemented within this area, which are required to be monitored closely with the participation of all stakeholder institutions in order to ensure the conservation of the Lake Gregory and the surrounding environment.
A discussion and a pre festival season monitoring inspection at the Lake Gregory area was carried out on 25.03.2019 with the officials of the Central Environmental Authority, Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, Sri Lanka Navy, Sri Lanka Army, Urban Development Authority, Sri Lanka Police. The locations of the proposed activities, garbage collection facilities, etc. were observed at the inspection.
