The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) jointly conducted raids on polythene lunch sheet manufacturing Industries Island wide with the assistance of the Police Special Unit of the CEA. Recently, both authorities conducted such raids in Colombo, Hokandara, Gampaha, Panadura and Matale areas based on information received from the general public to the CEA. During the raids the CEA tested the lunch sheets manufactured by the respective industries and the test proved that the products were manufactured using polythene and the CAA arrested the production stock and filed actions against the companies in the Magistrate’s Courts of the respective areas. The Magistrates have ordered to destroy the arrested stocks. The CEA took actions to destroy the stock of ten tons of polythene lunch sheets today (2019.03.28 Thursday) at the Sanitary landfill Site located in Dompe which is constructed and operated by the CEA for safe disposal of non-biodegradable waste material.
