World Wetlands Day – 2019 “Wetland and Climate Change”

On February 2nd, every year since 1997, the Wetlands Day commemorates all over the world.
To commemorate the World Wetland Day, the Wildlife Conservation Department collaborates with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) the National program was organized on 1st February 2019 at the “Ape Gama” premises, Battaramulla.
The event was graced by Hon. John Amaratunga, Minister of Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs, Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma, State Minister of Mahaweli Developent and Environment and Deputy Minister of Environment. Ministry Secretaries, Institutional Heads, University students and school students were also participated in the program.

The guest lecture was done by Dr. Sewwandhi Jayakodi, Senior Lecture, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka on “Wetlands and Climate Change” which was one of the important item of the program.
In this occasion the winners of the inter school portrait competition organized by the Wildlife Conservation Depatrtment and puzzle competition sponsored by the Vijaya Newspapers were also awarded.
