The 14th Environmental Pioneer National Camp was held from 19th to 22nd September 2018 at the Naval & Maritime Academy, Trincomalee with the participation of 375 Environmental Pioneer Gold Medalists hailed from 60 Schools Islandwide. Representing all the Nationalities Sinhala, Tamil Muslims and Christians participated in the event.
The inaugural ceremony was held on 20th of September at 9.00 am with the participation of Hon. Ajith Mannapperuma, Deputy Minister of Environment, Hon. Rohitha Bogollagama, Governor, Estern Province, Mr. Chandrarathne Pallegama, Chairman, CEA, Mr. Pathberiya CS_LOG Eastern Naval Area Commodore.
The main objectives of holding such program are to give broader knowledge on environmental awareness, attitudinal changes, practical experience, who was participating as the key messengers of environmental protection and conservation in the school society.
The ceremony was glamour with the performance done by students of the Mollipothana Maha Vidyalaya, Trincomalee and Sri Shanmuga Tamil Ladies College, Trincomalee.
Prima Factory, Mitshui Cement Factory, Naval Museum and visit of the “Sayurala” warship were the four places that pioneers participated to obtain practical experience in the field.
Several lectures were also arranged for the pioneers to obtain knowledge in different fields and those were, Marine Environment done by Dr. Teney Pradeep, General Manager, Marine Environment Protection Authority and about the Environmental Friendly Industries was done by Mr. Eranga Dilhan, Deputy General Manager, Sustainable Development, MAS Kreeda.
Cultural program is one of the enchanting program that showcases different cultural events by pioneers representing their schools. An especial folk art, cultural program was performed by Ravibandu Vidyapathi, which was enthusiastic the audience.
The Rangira Sri Lanka Radio channel facilitated the media coverage for the program, whereas TV recording was done for the documentary production. The Environment Pioneer National camp was one of the major annual event conducted by the Environmental Education & Awarness Divison.
On 22nd of September, the 14th Environmental Pioneer National Camp was successfully concluded at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee.
