Under the directives of his Excellency the President and Hon. Minister for Mahaweli Development and Environment, Air Intelligence unit of the Air Force of Sri Lanka (under the direct supervision of air force commander) has initiated a program on air surveillance for management and Monitoring of environment.
An initial discussion in this regard was held on 12th of September 2018 at the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) from 10.00 am to 12.00 noon. The discussion was graced by Mr.Chandrarathna Pallegama, Chairman and Mr.Hemantha Jayasinghe Director General of the Central Environmental Authority. Squadron Leader of the Sri Lankan Air force, Mr.Rukshan Gamlakshage has made an innovative presentation on how to apply air surveillance data/ information for environmental management and monitoring.
The main objectives of the meeting were to create common platform to share resources & databases, create awareness and exchange ideas among Central Environmental Authority and Sri Lankan Air Force on application of air surveillance data for environmental monitoring and management effectively.
This programme is coordinated by the Research & Development unit of the CEA
