The Central Environmental Authority continually conducts the island wide raiding programs to detect banned polythene manufactures, sellers & dealers, to give effect to the gazette notifications published in September 2017. The Investigation Unit of the Central Environmental Authority was able to capture another banned polythene manufacturing factory in a raid conducted in Ragama. According to information received from the public, CEA carried out this emergency raid in the month of June 2018 and they were able to seize this industry during manufacturing banned HDPE lunch sheets and other HDPE products are going on. Accordingly, the HDPE polythene samples were taken into custody to prosecute against the factory.
The CEA continues to bring the offenders before respective courts with evidences gathered through the day and night raids conducted island wide on the production, sale and use of banned polythene products with the assistance of Environmental Police. Accordingly, 3053 raids have been conducted on banned polythene manufacturers and wholesale traders up to end June 2018. 23 non – compliance have been found in the month of June, which are still using banned polythene products and legal action has been initiated against them.
