Manufacturing, trading and usage of any kind of polythene, polypropylene or any polythene related product having the thickness of 20 microns or less has been banned by the regulation published in the Gazettes Extra Ordinary No. 2034/33, 2034/34 for Lunch sheet, 2034/35 for HDPE shopping bags and 2034/38 for expanded Polystyrene lunch , dated 1st of September 2017. This rule is strictly continued from 1st of January 2018.
As a continuation of the raiding program, the Central Environmental Authority organized a raiding program to inspect the importing and using of banned polythene in the market. The program was conducted around the People’s Park area Pettah on 07.03.2018. In this session the officers have been done 27 raidings and out of that 2 legal actions were taken. The Dame street police station gave their fullest cooperation to succeed this raiding program.
