“Pilisaru” Project Signed MoU with the Local Authorities

With the aim of facilitating solid waste management for Local Authorities as well as for the government institutions, “Pilisaru” National Solid Waste Management Program signed agreements with several Local Authorities and government institutions to uplift  the in house waste management process.
Concerning the needfulness of the waste management in Sri Lanka, the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has planned to establish new composting sites in Walapane Pradeshiya Sabaha worth Rs. 14,948,080.06.
As a novel concept the CEA has taken a further step towards the management of solid waste by signing a MoU between CEA and the University of Colombo for the establishment of  a temporary Centre for Storing of Recyclable Solid Waste in the Colombo University premises.   This occasion was attended by Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Chairman, CEA and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lakshman Dissanayake of Colombo University and several other officials from both Organizations.  The cost of establishing the Storing Centre is around Rs. 2,717,172.86. 
The “Pilisaru Project” has donated a sum or Rs. 287,147.83 and Rs. 312,147.83 to the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute and the SOS Children’s Village respectively for the purpose of establishing Bio Gas Units with the hope of providing a better solution in the management of solid waste.
As a measure of improving the already established Compost Yards, the “Pilisaru Project” signed MoUU with Maha Oya & Kobeigane Pradeshiya Sabhas as well.  The cost of each Project runs up to Rs. 9,506,012.16 and 306,912.36 respectively.
The program was held on 9th January 2018 at the CEA with the participation of Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Chairman, CEA, Eng. J M U Indrarathne, Deputy Director General, Waste Management, Mr. Bandula Sarath Kumara, Deputy Project Director, members of “Pilisaru” Project and members of Local Authorities and other institutions.
