The Environmental Pioneer Program, which is specially planned for school children, is being successfully carried out in most of the schools in Sri Lanka. Under this program, Southern Provincial office of CEA collaborates with the Ministry of Environment & Fisheries, Southern Provincial Council, organized a provincial camp for the Environmental Pioneers.
The program was held from 03rd to 05th of November 2017 at Tzuchi National School in Hambantota with the participation of 173 Environmental Pioneers who awarded with Silver & Gold medals.
By conducting this kind of program it expected to enrich the knowledge on environment & threats to the environment by giving theoretical as well as the practical knowledge to the pioneers. Field visits to the Dry Zone Botanical Garden, Hambantota, Solar Power Plant, Hambantota & Bird Research Centre, Hambantota were arranged for the students in order to share the field experience.
In addition, with the aim of raising awareness among the Environmental pioneers, organized a special lecture on ''Prevention of Drugs".
Mr. H. W. Gunasena Southern Provincial Honorable Minister of Fisheries, Livestock, Environment, Electricity and Rural Industries, Mrs Prasadinie Bomiriyarachchi, the Assistant Secretary of that Ministry and Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri, Chairman of the Central Environmental Authority and Mr.W. H. Karunarathna, the District Secretary of Hambantota participated as chief invitees of ceremonial occasion of the event.
