Cleaning Campaign at Kaluthara with parallel to the World Environment Day

Due to the flood and landslide disaster face by the most part of the country in the last week of May, the schedule program to mark the National Program on World Environment Day on 5th June was cancelled according to the decision made by H/E the President Maithreepala Sirisena. Considering the social responsibilities, the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, and its line institutions, University students from the University of Kelaniya participated in a massive cleaning campaign in Yatagampitiya, Bulathsinghala DS division which was highly affected by the flood and landslide.
The program was held on 5th of June with the participation of His Excellency the President Maithreepala Sirisena and the political leadership. At the moment the president advised to the relevant officers to make all necessary requirements for the affected people who temporarily live in Yatagampitiya School and also the President made donation considering the needfulness.
Under the supervision of Mr. Udaya R. Senevirathne Secratay, Ministry of Mahaveli Development and Environment, Prof. Lal Mervin Dharmasiri Chairman, Central Environmental Authority (CEA) and Mr. Mapa Pathirana Actg. Director General CEA, the areas Yatagampitiya, Nagahadola, Niggaha, Galketiya, Molkawa, Ingiriya, Kekulaliya Temple and Pahiyangala area were cleaned and help the affected people to clean up their residence. The Chairman expressed at the moment and said that people who had affected by the disaster have to uplift their lives very soon and also in the future will take more attention to reduce the damage from such unfortunate disasters.
