It is a great pleasure for me to forward Chairman’s message on behalf of the Central Environmental Authority on our future outlook. I am pleased that our mission is to ensure a clean and green environment by protecting and managing it through the service excellence inclusive of people, technology and our staff.
The crisis of environmental destruction has made it mandatory to expend a considerable effort in “the protection of nature” by the new government, and there is now an increasing recognition of the vital importance of safeguarding the natural environment of our country for the sustainable development of our nation.
With the motivation for a prosperous economy, for a vibrant and just societyand fora flourishing environment, the necessity of environmental friendly approach to solve environment problems are continuously increasing. As a result, in recent years the preference for clean and green environment for health living has been growing in stature and influence.
The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) has brought together to a significant extent the development needs and environmental concerns. This meeting between the development drive and the environment protection has facilitated bringing scientists in the general field of environment and environmental activists to a forum of dialogue. These scientists, activists and other stakeholders may feel the CEA is competent to contribute to the solution of environmental problems.
As far as I am concerned, it is just this multi-dimensional nature of development and environment which has attracted myself to the field of environmental protection, which is fascinating me through all the years.
I want to say thank you to my colleagues at the CEA who encourageme to pursue my duties and support me from the very beginning of myendeavor. I am grateful to the His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka who is also the Hon. Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Mr. MaithreepalaSirisena, who has invited me to devote my time at the CEA.
May CEA run in the spirit of transparency among all stakeholders and yield environment friendly dividend to all the citizens in Sri Lanka, so that in this way the our mission will contribute to promoting the environmental protection in the development drive. May CEA in this way contribute to further the prosperity and welfare of people in our country.
